Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Went out again today to Lone Pine with Marianne. While we waited for the birds of prey, we wandered around near the koalas. One of the keepers was giving a talk about this olive python. She moved around "sniffing" the air with her tongue, while the keeper kept on chatting.

The ladies were working the birds of prey, Omega the wedgetail eagle, Larnie and Shannon the Barn Owls, Gizmo the Barking Owl, and a new boy, Buzz the Kestrel. Most of these birds have come from other sanctuaries, and are being trained to fly on command so that they can show off to visitors.

Mostly the birds aren't bothered by our presence, and we are able to get up nice and close to take our photos. Since Marianne and I have yearly passes, we can keep visiting to watch these birds train, getting more and more experience with panning and close-ups as we go.
